It’s quite rare to make stuff that is the product – more often than not I’m hired to create something that promotes a product – and so this project was a really exciting change from that; it’s really quite good fun to be able to take an audience with you on a journey longer than a 15 second Instagram reel! 

Realized Worth is all about transforming the world of corporate volunteering from one of transactional experiences, to one of meaningful relationships between companies, non profits, and communities.  They provided the scripts – lengthy Word documents that totalled over 20,000 words – and it was my job to work out what those 20,000 words might look like. Sometimes that was pretty straightforward; there’s a nice sequence about a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly that practically illustrated and animated itself. But other times were trickier; what does “forging new perspectives and actions” look like? 

And so I set about building a visual language where colours, symbols, and animations could be quickly called back upon to ground sections into a specific concept – bringing audiences along from a starting place of relative ignorance, to eventually becoming volunteer leader experts by building up the complexity of the topic in an engaging and accessible way.

And while I designed and assembled the visuals, I also worked with voiceover artist Austen Moret, who did an excellent job at injecting life and energy into the series.

This was my first dive into e-learning course creation – and I’m happy to say that it hasn’t been the last. I’ve since worked with Realized Worth across five similar series!
