Ident Motion Direction & Animation
Client: Bauer Media Group

Founded in 1875, Bauer Media Group celebrated their 150 year anniversary in 2025 – and I was lucky enough to be brought on to animate the celebratory ident. 

Designed by Hanna Gawlik, it was up to me inject motion into the static ident design. It’s very rare to get a good chunk of time to animate anything these days, so this project was a particular pleasure when I learned I had around 10 days to really take time to explore and develop movement for this piece. 

It’s a very colourful design and I kept thinking of ‘balloons’ when I saw it – so I started to explore elastic and stretchy movements as a way of animating the elements on. Not those ghastly bouncy bubbly type of animations though that can just be slapped on by a template-wielding maniac, but a much more intentional stretchiness where one element would motivate the entrance of the other. This also fit very nicely with the idea of a ‘timeline’ and the marking of a milestone like the 150 years that Bauer were celebrating. 

In the end, I’m very pleased with the result – I even created a version with sound design just to add that extra weight to the movement. It was designed to be looped, and the looped version has a somewhat mesmerising quality which I think is the mark of good motion work!
